For you AK fans, AK47 GBB's are now available :-

Seems to use CO2 (so probably overpowered for JP - unless someone comes up with NPAS for it).
Very nice, but... it says "AEG magazine compatible GBB's"?! AEG or GBB? And if AEG, where does it get its gaz from?!
Ah, found my answer:
Quote:We use an external power source so there is no need to worry about gas spitting, cool down, or refilling in the middle of a game.
The line is hidden in your sling or camel line to be concealed. You can also blend it into the webbing making it look like a comm line. We have done it this way because you dont see or notice it and acts just like a sling.
lol, so you need a backpack with a tank of Nitrogen or CO2, interesting concept ^^
Oh, and power varies from 300fps to 500, so it's compatible with Japan.
wow for that much you could by 2 real AK's lol ^^
Interesting concept? These are Escort System guns. That system of GBBs has been around since the 80s, DG has been selling GBB AKs since at least 2006. This is how airsoft got its start, how did you guys not know about this?
Skip on them, I've owned two Escort M4s, one Escort M16A2 and an Escort M60E3 and not a one of them worked as well as it should have. you need constant tuning before each game to get them working right and even then you'll be hard pressed to get them to stay functioning for the entire game.
They are Japan legal, as they got their start here. My Escort M60 could shoot up to 400 FPS with .25s before it wouldnt cycle, its sweet spot was about 330 on .25s. There is no such thing as an NPAS for an Escort system replica, FPS is adjusted by a pressure valve.
EDIT: To clarify since I posted about my GBB AK before, the DG AKs are still more reliable than the GHK AKs like I have. Mine is currently out of commission for no apparent reason.
Obviously my "interesting concept" point of irony wasn't noted here. Having a backpack full of pressurized gaz ain't really my idea of one of the best things to do while running around in hot weather and in a forest for playing Airsoft...
Perhaps not the same system, but you can see the gas tanks in the Marui Man ad. TM make an argument against the old system and the benefit of the new electric system.

I was at a public game at No. 9 last year where a large number of the players had tanks in back packs, and they were getting crazy rate of fire. I think this field must be one of the only ones that caters to this system, as they had a number of large tanks around for the players to refill from. Not for me, but they were pretty bad ass!
HPA and CO2 arent dangerous when used properly. Unless you're heating the tanks to extreme temperatures you should be fine. No one ever knew I was usimg a GBB until I started shooting. Heres an example of what my M60 looked like. Shooting indoors made my ears ring so I only did it this time to show people what it looked like. I'm a pretty muscular guy and was trying to keep the recoil under control, you can still see how much it moved around in my hands.

I've never had to bother refilling a tank on the field, but I always used two 2400 HPA tanks.
The benefits include looking awesome, sounding awesome, FEELING awesome, and scaring the shit out of anyone on the field since they sound like real guns indoors like that.
The issues are reliability and extreme cost compared to AEGs. The tank isnt an issue since how often do you put your AEG down in the middle of a game, honestly? If you're just dropping your 1k+ dollar AEG on the ground and walking off in the middle of a skirmish you're nuts. If you're not using it it's hanging on the sling, making the tank a non issue. Not to mention the recoil throwing off shots in automatic and the slower ROF compared to the MP5K's with drum magazines scopes and silencers you always see.
After several years and thousands of dollars, I've decided it's not worth it.
