Hey all, just wanted to post a thread about the lack of numbers we have been getting out to TKO events.
On Saturday Ginga Ninga organized an event at Forest Union. He went to a lot of trouble and came up with an awesome plan for the day. It was the perfect mix of short scenarios and quick in-field turn around with just the right amount of out-of-field break time. Unfortunately we only had 8 players (7 when Q was having gun issues).
I'm not sure why we are having a low turnout but I think we need to try and figure it out. Perhaps we shouldn't be organizing 2 events per month as it looks like it could be adding to the watered down numbers. Obviously summer is not the best of time in Japan to be running around with a lot of kit on but surely we can get more than 8 people out to a game!
It is a pity that Ginga Ninga has decided to stop organizing events for a while as he was really starting to get some great ideas together.
Maybe we could try a system were we post our available days for the next month and then organizers can choose a day that suits the most number of people??? Any other ideas for how we can get a better turnout?
I felt that May's game was pretty well attended. This seems to be more of a one time thing, and June can be busy for a lot of people. I'm planning to probably come to at least one if not both games next month. This month was particularly busy for me with 2 coworkers on vacation, so I had to put in some extra time at my school.
Rooboy - great points. Also worth noting that this was brought up on an earlier thread:

I think we are all discussing our options and trying to figure out what else we can do to get our numbers up. Also, currently we only have one TKO game per month, the July 11 game is not organized by TKOSOC. My original fear was that the July 11 game would be "stealing" participants from the regular TKO games, but looking at the signup list, I don't think that is the case.

Don't be so sure yet... things are far from good yet for the 24th.

I agree it's a shame regarding Ginga, I really enjoyed the work put into it, but I can't blame his decision. I'm hoping for more potential games from the Team vs Team idea, since we can't really force members to play if they don't feel like it in order to just make bigger games for us.
Maybe we can help the ginga change his mind if we get a good turnout to the 24th game. Hopefully people have been a bit lazy signing up like me but I am going to go and sign up now. Let's try and drum up as much support as we can to try to get some good numbers for that event! 3 ycare babes attending should help increase the numbers shouldn't it?!!

Actually, there are only three people that have signed up for the July 11 game that haven't signed up for the July 24 game. Chuckles had mentioned he is busy every weekend other than July 11, and I'm guessing Tesla will sign up for July 24 if he can make it.

Also, Team 130R and my two guests can only do Sundays, so I don't think the July 11 game is stealing customers. Shy
I would be there on the 11th as well but I'll be on holiday. Ben, maybe on the 11th you could invite some 130R guys (that have good English) to the game on the 24th if they are interested.
I think the best way to encourage participation is to encourage others (outside the forum) to attend. I have no doubt in my mind that a portion of you guys here are committed and if you cannot attend, you have "genuine" reasons not to.

TKOSOC can provide infrastructure. Participants can help generate interest by reaching out to the greater community.
Rooboy,
I think the other teams that Pyscho mentioned can only do Sundays.
I have standing invites to all of my friends, and I update them on the schedule as games are added. I think it takes a fair bit of convincing to get people over the hump of attending their first game. It's an early start on the weekend, you have to figure out travel, it can add up to an expensive day, etc. I'll keep working on them though, and hopefully I can get some new recruits. I'm no Ycare though, all my guests will be male. I hope that's alright with everyone.
I for one am retired from all matches until it gets cool again. After playing at Desert Union almost exactly one year ago, I decided it wasn't really worth risking heat stroke just to play with guns.
I wouldn't be surprised to find that other people are in the same boat.
I was fully in the same boat last year Aouwra. That game was killer.
As a result I have been really conscious of booking summer games in wooded areas and making sure that there are lots of chances to hydrate AND not be shot at the same time Smile

I am EXTREMELY heat sensitive. I get red just walking to the corner store to grab lunch...so heat is an issue I take very much into consideration when planning games during the summer.
Yeah, BCU was a killer, never again sun in summer without shades during Airsoft.

Woods are quite different though, much fresher and shades everywhere, doesn't really compare to BCU.
As one of the current "deserters", I can share a few points
a)June is end quarter month and very exhausting in term of work, I need to sleep a good 8 hours on both days during the week-end in addition to normal sleep hours
b)heat indeed is an issue but I can overcome it (like, yeah, the full experience)
c)then summer months have also vacation days
d)family: 2 games a month is a lot, as I have other hobbies

what makes me kick: games that value and reward
a)team play
b)coordination
c)patience
d)short and brief engagements

just my two JPY
It's hard enough for me to even squeeze time to take a breather or to watch Iron Man 2....

College life is so busy compared to Language School life; I got all the Clubs and Circles (Badminton, Kickboxing, Moviemaking and Flying club), all the homeworks and tests (I just wrote up a very long report about CSR in Japanese, need a high GPA here to get a scholarship) and it gets worse because its nearing the end of the semester and all the tests starts coming up, all the extra activity I do outside school (Krav Maga and aikido), and all the social life (meeting up with friends, buying clothes, etc).

It'll get worse when (hopefully) I managed to get a girlfriend. Most of my friends told me that if (a BIG if) I managed to have a girlfriend, it's not my own time, but it becomes "our" time.

Maybe I should make a Survival Game Club in Meiji Univ...
