I finally cave in and want an M4, but with so many out on the market its a difficult choice.
Right now its a choice between the G&P, King Arms, and Tokyo Marui. For a person wants a M4 that is durable (very, preferably metal) and easy to mod (internals and aesthetics) what is the best choice for an M4?
suggestions?
ah ah, I was facing the same question a couple of weeks ago...
After some research, I went for a King and Arms for the look of a specific AEG.
My understanding is that unless there is an exact model that G&P doesn't produce, G&P will be a good choice.
Anyone?
Ok my honest opinion, if you are looking to mod then get a King Arms, why because you won't need to mod it! The king Arms comes with top shelf internals; take a look at my in-depth review found here on the forums on the TROY M4 and you'll see exactly what i mean!
The external furnishings are also outstanding featuring many things that G&P as well as the 1st and second generation M4/M16 Marui's lack, but we will come back to Marui.
G&P to be honest I wouldn't bother, the internals are generic parts that are similar to what you find in a 1st and second generation Marui and the externals are mediocre now compared to the latest King Arms release.
This brings us back to the Marui, now in all honesty this would be my choice and I have decided that this will be my next purchase (Yes I'm actually going to buy something!) With the price of SystemA's PTW that has fewer features than the new M4 SopMod by Marui and for about 80% cheaper you get probably one of the most revolutionary products in years to hit the market that is actually in the budget of pretty much all levels of players.
Having manhandled Lionel’s and Toru's at the last game at Seals (Thanks Chaps!) I was very impressed with the build and quality of the product as well as the innovative design and features, also the fact that Marui haven't screwed up by making certain parts of the receiver set non-standard sizes or fitting means that a lot of the furnishings and external parts from other manufactures are sideways compatible with it.
Also as Marui were rather clever and set prototype gear boxes to pretty much all of the major 3rd part manufacturers we will see more and more upgrades for both the internals and the externals of the new Generation of V2 gear boxes with the recoil engine hitting the market very soon.
Finally this brings us back to the main question I always ask! Why upgrade?
With the power limitations and style of game we play at TK Overkill there is really no point in upgrading all the internals, you want a gun that fires 1000 rds per minute ...great but with most games having a 300 rd limitation you'll be out of BB's having pressed the trigger once. It's like owning a Ferrari Enzo in Tokyo... no real point apart from bragging rights and when in the game bragging rights is really about what you do in the field then you’re better off putting the time and the money into the one thing that is going to make the difference....... Hop unit and barrel and that’s what I do.
Many of the guys that have purchased weapons from me in the past are very surprised at the power level being sub 0.90 but still reaching out to 50 meters, why??.... it’s the barrel and hop unit and when you combine this with good quality optics (That’s not real steel but ones you can actually adjust!) then you can really reach out and touch people!
Forget trigger response, forget rate of fire (unless you’re using a GPMG or SAW then go to town) but focus on the one thing that is going to do the job.. Range, accuracy and optics. Your finger doesn’t need modding.
Of course this is all my own opinion and there is nothing wrong with ramping up the juice on your mods but having played the sport now for over 10 years and spent god knows how much on parts, upgrades and what nots I’m going back to basics and loving every minute of it!

What about the King Arms Colt M4s? Are they good as the Troy?
I find that trigger response is actually pretty valuable for myself, though each to his own.
Unless a gun was really sloppy though, I'd rather have less response than a gun which breaks more often becasue I screwed up the modding process.
very interesting overview Fareast, especially for the "new" beginners...
Good to know that just a change of the barrel may have such an improvement on a gun.
I chose my K&A for the look mainly however I read good things about G&P and mixed reviews about K&A!!!... So it's very confusing in the end.
So I keep my fingers crossed and hope all will be fine...
