Just stumbled upon an interesting article on BBC News:

stupid...really stupid....They compare paintball to killing people yet not video games??? lol total bullshit if you ask me.Sounds like some right wingers...
Yes but the users' comments make sense, much more 'educative' than article itself Wink
There's a lot of fear going on which causes this kind of knee jerk reaction. We need to recognize that we belong to a minority sport and it is something that, given the current cultural fears around either terrorism or crazy people with guns, we need to be sensitive around presentation outside of our own clique of interest. What people don't know/understand they denigrate and fear. We know that people who believe fanatically or are socially isolated are going to find ways of striking out at the societies they perceive as causing their problems, we just need to be careful not to dismiss the other point of view because if it isn't countered reasonably then it will come down hard. Otherwise you end up with what happened in the UK with the Violent Crimes Reduction Act, http://www.ukara.org.uk/node/6, and a major effort to get an exemption. I went to a UK Airsoft shop and I had to be buzzed in, the weapons were all displayed in a closed room in the back of the shop, definitely odd compared to the comparatively attitude here
There was recent situation here in japan about a month ago when a field owner in Hachioji was forced to address the community as they expressed their concern over airsoft. SEALS was featured in the story...maybe things will change here as well.
My wife was telling me that she'd seen a tv news item about that, but couldn't get any more detail. Any more detail on the story?
Why do you think I'm selling all my kit?????????

Just joking stop panicing! Ok, Japan will probably not outright ban the sport. If they were they would have done it two years ago when the all those high power shotting incidents were happening in Kansai. If they ban airsoft then they will also need to ban practicle shooting, which is very big here in Japan, not only that but it will also effect all the hunting and match shooting industry as well.

The law in Japan works and is enforced, recently with the high profile airsoft arrest of Tanaka from Tanaka Airsoft. But I wouldbe very suprised if the Japanese Goverment did a 180 degree turn and banned the sport out right.

I would think if anything happened they would introduce a licencing and registration which in all honesty I've been a big supporter of ever since I started playing in the UK.
