Yeah same here, overall OS is way faster than before. Not sure if it was the clearing out of cache and all that did that, but right now there is a real difference.
Same here, and I hope they will release the rest of additional (software) functions of 3Gs for 3G too...
By the way, is there a forum where we can protest, or an online petition?
Sean, give it to me mate and I can overhaul her for you, upgrade the battery and sort anythink else out that needs doing..... how did you muck up one of the ribbon cables?

I was wondering exactly that mate!

Cheers mate Big Grin.

Actually my phone troubles started when I went to HK and asked the shop on changing the battery. He opened it up, then said he had stock batteries only then I told him forget it. He put it back together then the home button failed.

Brought it back to him and he fixed the home button. Later I discovered the vibrate died but too late for him to fix as I was flying back to TK. In TK I opened it up myself to look at the vibe but couldn't see where the issue was.
Putting it back, there's the ribbon cable that slips in the connector slot (not the ones that you press down, but the one with the slips into a slit connector)....ribbon cable bent and I -think- a connector broke. As such earphone speaker not working.

If I can leave it with you to fix, that's great...I'm in no rush to get the 3GS and would prefer to get the HK legally unlocked version (no UltraSn0w for me).

How long/how much would it cost?
Hmmm I don't think there is such a thing as legally unlocked. These are units that have a hardware hack to bypass the Service provider locks. If the cable ribbon is damaged I may need to purchase some parts. It also may sound like the spindle on the motor that produces the vibration may be bent, this also may require replacing.

Would you want me to upgrade the battery as well Sean?
just jail broke mine ^^

Legal unlock - yes there is, only 2 countries have unlocked 3G iPhones (by unlocking I mean SIM unlocking) - Hong Kong and Italy. All else, are locked.

What's the battery upgrade like? Apple's std id 1150mAh, and I've read o a 1400mAh service available in US. On the forums there's a S'porean guy who managed to find/squeeze in a 1600mAh (same shell size). I'm 90% sure I'm keen on a battery upgrade too.

Factors that will help me decide on go/no-go would be time/cost.
Ahhh also found out France is in that boat as well as they took Apple to court.

Battery upgrade is great, I'm also using the 1600mAh battery and I can have bluetooth and WiFi running all day without it going dead! As for time and cost....Once I have the parts I can do the upgrade in less than an hour for the battery. I

The battery I can get for $9 USD (not including shipping)
New home buttons are also $9 USD and includes the flex cable.
The Vibrating motor I can get for $6 USD.
Mic Microphone Speaker $6 USD.

As for the labour I normally charge 10,000 JPY.
Thx. K, maybe should let you see which cable. My home button now works fine, so that's ok. My vibrate, no idea...if I hit my phone hard, vibrate works every now and then. Don't think I need a new speaker phone...think the problem is with the cable. So all up, think the only things I may need :-
1) battery
2) cable (will show you which one)
3) vibe motor
Sean, the problem is with alot of the parts i that the cable is soldered on to the hardware, such as camera, speaker, mic and digitizer so I don't think I can just replace the cable.
Cables that connect between daughter boards are soldered, not connected? That's surprising.
it comes as a complete unit Sean, its so small that they solder the ribbon cable on to the parts.
Hrm, my music library is 31.58gb, which is too close for comfort. Once they get it up to about 50 I'll go for one. I freakin hate my current POS Sony Walkman that doesn't play MP3s. Wth would you make a walkman that doesn't play MP3s, Sony?
