Hi All! I'm an avid airsofter who's been playing for some years in the US (NY, MA & RI). I'm moving to Tokyo in October and I can't wait to play with you.

I stayed Japan for 5 months in 2007 and only made it out to one airsoft game - a public outdoor event in a bamboo field in or near Chiba. The style of play there was very different than what I am used to in the US - it was a small field and the teams started very close to each other - players did not appear to work together and it typically took 10 minutes for one of the 30-50 man teams to be eliminated each round. Is this typical of most matches? If possible I'd like to play the longer-term games, scenario objectives, small unit tactics etc.

I am used to playing on a team and I'd really like to find a competitive group or team to play with in Japan - the catch is my Japanese is no good. Are most of your guys on teams / any looking for new players? I won't slow you down and I'm an excellent airsoft tech, if that helps.

Do you have any advice on things to buy / bring with me when I go - anything that is harder to get or easier to get in Japan? I've built a gun for the 1J limit but beyond that I don't know what else might be different. Will marpat woodland will be effective for most outdoor Japanese fields, or is multi or another pattern more useful there?

Best Regards,
Will
Welcome Will
I am fairly new to the TKO group, but I find that there is a good mix between scenarios and milsim, and I think you will be able to find a better game here. However, most if not all fields are probably smaller than you are used to in the US just due to scale.

Hope you join us once you get here.
Hey Will,
Welcome to TKO, Excellent Airsoft Tech..sounds interesting...I am for competitive too, I have woodland, ACU, Multi camo, desert, Japanese camo, depends on the field or depends on you. It's your choice. Looking forward to meet you soon Rolleyes..
Hi welcome Will,

Good to know you are interested in team work.
Multi-cam works well in the fields we play. But I change happily to the "fashion" taste of the day (ACU, DCU, MC).

You can find everything in Japan at double the price of anywhere besides the TM replicas that are probably at the best price than anywhere in the world. On the otherhand, you have all the Hongkong and Taiwanese shops close so you may get a decent price.

One thing that is relatively difficult to find at a decent price are good BDUs and shoes that will fit your size.

Talking about Marpat Woodland, do you have a good source as last time I bid on one on ebay (last week) a large regular went for USD 71 +USD 25 P&P...
Hi dstole, Amazona & tlfast,

I can imagine most fields must be compact in Japan - I'll get my sniping fill here this summer before I go.

Amazona I look forward to meeting you too.

tlfast I prefer Propper BDUs to any of the other brands I've tried, esp because they make most patterns in the ACU cut with the mandarin collar. Propper pants or jackets are typically $35-50 each here, I don't know how much shipping would be to Japan, but fairly expensive I imagine. I bought one set from Galaxy Army Navy here in NY, the Propper stuff is ~$40 each part there. I definitely do not recommend the Truspec MarPat, they fade very quickly and the cut is a bit clunky.

Thank you for the advice on the BDU prices, I will probably grab one of the better knockoff multi's and bring that & the marpat woodlands with me, along with some good boots.
Hey Will,

Regarding patterns, MARPAT/Woodland works well during humid seasons (late spring to early autumn) and Multicam for the rest. During seasons when Multicam works, sometimes ACU/ABU works as well.

I'm also interested in trying long-drawn scenarios like what I read about in other airsoft forums, but logistics are a problem here.

See you when you get here Big Grin
alright then, see you in October
Looks like there will be another noob out there around the time I get there! I cant wait!

I had the same experience you had in Japan here in Hawaii. I was a big fan of MilSim back on the east coast, and I havent had even a decent scenario game in over 4 years now. I really do hope I can play something besides "team deathmatch" in Japan!
If there aren't any we'll just have to get some going ourselves then Smile
Sounds like a plan to me! I'd LOVE to finally get a milsim team started. I just sold me WE m4 and picked up a GBB AK74U, so I'm going to put together a russian paratrooper loadout. Any interest in starting a russian military themed team?
Hello Whogben and welcome Wink looking forward to meeting you soon!

Hehe Wraith... 'nother GBB nut Wink I'm actually just contemplating getting the GHK AKS-74U myself... How are you satisfied with yours & did you go for the full Ra-Tech metal BCG + NPAS combo?
