those that lock up are becuase of the spring being too long. buy a stronger spring like an ms120 prometheus spring and cut it to the exact same lentgh of the original sopmod spring the gearbox was designed for that length spring. plan and simple. why add and extra 2 inchs of spring? surely in your mind just beucase it makes it shoot faster doesnt nessaraly make it better! go bigger and cut to length
on a separate note regardless of this thread i was gunna keep it stum till the prototypes had been made but im making some custom sopmod springs they will be around the 330 and 350 fps mark, unless otherwise requested.
I have never seen a MS120 spring here in Japan. Most of the ones I see in stores are .9J max.
330-350 fps would make them illegal in Japan wouldn't they?
I guess ordering from the states or Hong Kong is an option but I wonder about customs?
im loving your enthusiasim for questions dstole but the day any customs seize a single spring will be a sad day for the world. As long as its under 328 after your done. But theres so many different factors that affect fps you just cant label a spring 330.

I guess my inexperience in the upgrading and customizing in general shines through there...meaning I wasn't sure if certain springs were illegal (hence why I never see them in stores) or not. You made it pretty clear. Let me know when your springs are available. Happy to test.
As far as I know, the strongest spring you can buy "legally" in Japan is the Phoenix MP100 or the Angel ちょっぱや 0.9J spring. These are "for short stroke use" only. With an optimal setup it can reach 110 m/s.
In regular springs in sompod is space of springs same as PDI and if you want to modify springs.
You can cut PDI spring by break with the coil spring that frequent out.

you should count the coils, coil amount determines the size of the spring at full compression ie 22 coils will be fine 23 might be to long and not allow the piston to move far enough back. 30 for instance would be too long it might be that they reduced coil amount on the m85 rather than diameter or length hence why its working
hey guys ive finished a test spring for the sopmod which makes 325fps, im not sure though if this is right or if i should make it less ? This was tested on a standard sopmod. I could call it an m90 too go with my current m100 340fps but id then have to do another run even smaller at 300, should i just skip the m90 or do you think theres a market for it? Any feedback appriceated. Also i did an aep glock/usp spring, which is getting about 275fps, but ive already decided to redo this one and go for 300+
I would be interested in a 300 fps SOPMOD spring and I think that there would definitely be a market for it here in Japan. I was at a game yesterday with over 100 people, each of them had 2 or 2 weapons and half at least were SOPMODS. The springs are pretty easy to drop in after you have removed the original, and it would be reassuring to use something made specific to the opriginal spring length.
I would also be interested in the USP although I have read they are difficult to put in. I was told at a shop recently that TM has stopped making the tactical light that can be used as an external battery so I wonder what battery performance would be like with a regular battery pushing a heavier spring? Do you test with the regular batteries?
unfortunatly my aep usp has a lipo squeezed in around the barrel but i plan on testing it plenty with mine and then testing on a standard and also do an installation video to go with the sopmod one ive already done. I would imagine rof will slow slightly but for 300 fps it could be a worthy trade off only time will tell on that one. Thats interesting about the spring your saying that the current powers too much then at 325. Im assuming everyone will run some kind of barrel upgrade which would put the m90 potentially over.. Ill go back to the drawing board and aim for 300 - 315 which should allow some degree of upgrading.

i finished testing the sopmod m85 i will call it, it chronos standard about 315 max 320 some 310s 309s, this is on 22 hop clicks
i then fit a pdi 6.01 tight bore, i got up at 6am for this lol, and its getting 328- 333 basically on the line with 22 hop clicks i then put it to 26 hop clicks and its sitting at about 95ms which is well under, as you can see hop plays a good part in the fps, so im going to run with this spring as lets face it the pdi 6.01 is over kill on the barrel front and most only see a 10 fps increase from 6.03s. Also i would imagine it will setle down another 5fps on average in the first week. but that should be its final figure for some time as the sopmod doesnt suffer from compressed spring like other aegs.
Aep spring hasnt gone so well, i chronoed it yesterday and hit 297 fps for my little aep i fit a new one today which was considerably more in power yet resulted in less fps! only 285 on average, this time with noticable slow down in trigger response. but i checked my battery and it was low on charge so now giving it some retests later..
im happy with the sopmod spring, i dont want to go too low i personally like to keep it as close to the limit as possible, and if it goes over or im worried it will go over i simply add a little more hop.
the hop unit has 0 - 32 clicks, you should find out next game you play what your perfect hop click is for optimal distance for reference agasint the springs. 0 - 20 clicks has minimal effect on the gun but 20 - 32 you see significant changes in power and tragectory.
Richard, did you catch my post in the general discussion area called illegal? I found my self in a situation where adding hop adds almost 10 m/s on my G&P Stubby Killer. I wonder if a similar situation could occur with the SOPMOD?
hmm well all i can do is test with these two sopmods and post the results, these guns the more hop you add the more the fps goes down. Is this fps amount ok then ? Ive specified that the final springs be either the same as the sample spring at 315fps or less with an emphesis on less. Would be nice if the final ones which should take a week come in about 310. My aep im redoing again ! They have one more idea for getting it too 300 failing that ill just have a run of the 260 - 280 spring made. Rof was good even at these figures.
310 sounds good in my mind as it allows a bit of room...
