Blatant cash in by a franchise that hasnt been relevant for what, six years?

Now, bad company 2, THAT is going to be something else
but still... Another promising FPS from EA... Can't wait for it Big Grin
Game publishers pretty much realized that it was time to move on from WW2 as far as FPS goes. It's interesting that the rumored next Treyarch Call of Duty (technically the next CoD, but not from Infinity Ward) might be in Vietnam or set in the Cold War. I think they'd be interesting settings to have an FPS. Modern War seems to be the new hot setting, but with MoH coming back and Spec Ops: The Line, I have a sneaking suspicion in a year or two we might all be Modern War'd out in the FPS realm to.
I really really hope so. I'd love to see some Korean War or even some Vietnam Ware shooters. How about a Russians in Afghanistan game?
Or how about a modern warfare game that isn't packed with special forces. I'd love to play an FPS where to you take on the role of an Australian/British/Canadian regular soldier (not American because I'm bored with that). ARMA 1/2 was cool but I longed for something other than USA vs whoever.

Give me an FPS where you get to be a Royal Marine Commando or 3 Para any day.
So you want a game that...swaps your player models with Australians and gives your character a different accent?

Lets get something unique for once! have there EVER been any Korean War games?
hmm, Wraith, knowing the amount of money involved in making a game, Korean war sounds pretty obscure, doesn't it? Maybe if a band of brothers or war in pacific mini series is released about the war in Korea this would get a chance.
It is a bit obscure, theres a reason it's called "The Forgotten War". I think we've had quite enough WW2 and Modern Shooters to hold me over into next decade though, I'd love something unique for once. Everyone just wants to cash in on a quick buck though, and for some reason people still buy WW2 shooters.
ThunderMidget was telling me a stat he read on Kotaku the other day...

98% of Blizzard's income comes from World of Warcraft
68% of Activision's income comes from COD, Guitar Hero, and WOW.

These are fairly big developers, but I think it is safe to say that if Infinity Ward puts out one bad COD game they could go under. It would be a big risk to develop a game based on the forgotten war...they have to go with what appeals to the masses. Keep those FPS modern war scenarios coming Smile

It's hard to say what IF is gonna do now that there are three studios making CoD games. The best bet is we get Treyarch's CoD this year (set in some other time period). IF gives us Modern Warfare 3 sometime in 2011 and the new Sledgehammer Games made CoD will come either later this year or early next (which is sounding like the Modern Warfare: Ghost spin-off that has been rumored for awhile).

Now I'm worried because this is the exact strategy that Activision tried with Guitar Hero and it almost frakking killed the music game business last year (and led to severe cuts and studio closures). It's like they learned nothing, and figure second times a charm.
Drifter, last developments indicated that two of the main development leaders were fired and filing for a law suit.

Ubisoft had something pretty neat with a semi-tactical shooter set in WWII (brothers in arms). I really liked the ability to command your squad teams with move, suppressive fire and frag orders.

I am looking forward to anything they may release based on the same engine. Here is a video review:

Game is really not as bad as the review makes it sounds. There are some great team play moments. My favorite ones in any shooter at this point.

Oh, I know West and Zampella are gone, that's the reason all these crazy CoD plans are coming out of Activision now. Those guys were trying to hold back the watering down of what they saw as their franchise (but legally it was Activisions when they got bought out way back when). By all accounts the two sides have been fighting as far back as CoD 3 and maybe since the day they were bought. The strong rumor is that West and Zampella wanted to do something other than Modern Warfare 3 this year (a brand new IP), and then do number 3 for 2012.

Long story short, Activision fires them for "insubordination", then makes a press release saying three new CoD games are coming in the new year or so. The two founders have filed a suit suing Activision for royalties yet paid for MW2, which are said to be upwards of 30 million dollars. Also they are suing for control of the Modern Warfare license. I doubt they plan on winning everything (the Modern Warfare IP especially). To me it looks more like a move to clear all the litigation they can now so that they can go to work on a new studio and new IP. Ironically, they may return to EA, where they left so many years ago when they were part of 2015 Studios, working on Medal of Honor, lol. The President of EA made some very flattering comments today, which sounded very much like door is open for West and Zampella to return. And EA and Activitsion have a solid history of fighting over video games, so I could see them willing to fund the legal proceedings to get these two free to make games again. Maybe Medal of Honor games?
