Ok, so this thread is about frustrating experiences you had with your airsoft guns Angry.

I'll start since I'm in the mood (VERY frustrated):

So while clocking my AK47 (from Fareast) last week to compare my new Tavor's output, I realized something seemed wrong with my chrono, my AK was shooting at 0.2J...
Tried couple of times, changed batteries, tried shooting at a cardboard box, then at my hand... yup, 0.2J.

Open it up, everything looks fine, then try to shoot, and there it is, huge cracks all around the gearbox, pieces of metal that were held by the AK's shell start flying out of the gearbox... sweet.

So yesterday I received from eHobby Asia a new Reinforced Guarder AK gearbox (just the casing since internals were supposed to be good), pretty standard I figured.
Well, wrong. The trigger connector little box wouldn't fit into the goddam gearbox, had to cut part of it. And since I had to cut some of the wires to change the gearbox, I went along and did a whole new wiring with clean connectors to the motor (not soldered like before).
Other couple of places where not really a fit and I end up grinding bit by bit the difficult parts of the gearbox (each time retrying closing the gearbox. Also do NOT take painted gearbox, mine is black and the paint doesn't help for the bearings at all... makes them too tight).

Finally, after maybe 6 hours of battling with the gearbox to fit it all, and a lot of grinding and sandpapering, I manage to close it properly, semi works, motor engages properly, just got to put the little top sliding plate in there... 20mn of hammering to make it slide enough... ok then just need to put it all in the AK.

Start doing so... and, band one of the trigger little metal plate (to which cables are soldered) gives up... not sure if too old, too bad quality, or what else, but it snaps right out of the gearbox...

I was, and stll am of course very upset. Tomorrow I got to go to Akiba, get a new trigger connector box, new wires, and re do the whole thing again...

So, what's your story ?
a PP-99 that never worked...Don't buy from Fareast...Yeah that's right I said it...everyone here knows that at least 4 of us have been ripped off by this guy and it's bullshit. At first I thought it was just my lack on knowledge in Airsoft but have come to realize that it wasn't...
Thanks for the advice Brandon.

I had an Escort M60 that never worked right. Went through three shredded hop units and thousands of BBs, but I ended up trading it off. Got an SP M4 flat top, an FAL and an AK103 both highly upgraded for it. Lost a few bucks on the trade but made it back selling the FAL and AK.
Oh so he got you too wraith?
No, I've never dealt with him before. I guess he doesnt come to TKO events anymore then?

I was just relating a story about wasting time and money on a POS airsoft gun, I didnt know I was supposed to post about fareast
No you were in the right I was just curious...ever play airsoft in CA?
I also bought a non/semi-functioning gun from FarEast.
At least it came with a case to fit the glock I have that DOES work.
Rolleyes

This thread is taking a new direction Tongue

Sounds like Fareast's guns weren't as reliable as we thought they were, and apparently many members of the forum were fairly disappointed, including me.
Live and learn... Undecided
Does fareast still go to TKO games? Anyone ask him what his deal is? or did he dick everyone over and bounce?
Well, I have no Fareast experiences, but being new to airsoft I've had my ups and downs with guns. The TM rifle I bought has been great, but it doesn't always fit well with parts from China, so I have to do modding sometimes to get things to fit. In my quest to get a Magpul MOE handguard attached, I ended up changing way more than I planned. But overall I've enjoyed the challenge and time it takes to get things to fit just right, kind of zen sometimes. I haven't had a situation as bad as Ycare yet though, so maybe I'll change my tune soon enough, since I'm planning on building a custom gun someday, and I'm sure frustration and hand injuries await me Tongue
Guys if this goes off-topic I'm going to start deleting posts. Keep it on track please.
well... Since it's about airsoft guns (only), I'll share my experience cleaning my gun

Imagine on the first game you brought your very first AEG, and you ACCIDENTALLY dropped it into a huge pile of mud.
It just happened that instant, the front sling on my new AKS-74 suddenly fails and it fell from my back with a huge meaty (muddy?) slap. It was immersed into the mud. The time when I took the gun, it looks like it's been buried inside the mud for couple of decades. Mud all over the place. In every crack imagined, you can find mud, or sand, or small stone, or all of them combined. Inside the barrel, inside the folding stock, inside the receiver, inside the trigger guard, inside the sight, virtually any hole/crack/opening has been plugged by sand sans mud. And it's filthy, dripping mud all the way from the field to the office (Splash) where I cleaned it with a white rag that turn brown.

And so, after rudimentary cleaning, I went home. After a day's rest and a veteran's advice to clean it as quick as possible, I decided to do more thorough cleaning. At first it look easy, just wipe the mud away with wet rag and i'll come off. It's f***ing hard (no profanity here, we got underage Big Grin). Those mud had already caked, and become "solid". It took more than 5 times polishing to really clean the surface. I took more than 40 minutes to ONLY clean the front barrel since I have to clean through all crack/hole that's been blocked by mud. It got worse when I move to the center part of the rifle. There are lots of unreachable holes that must be cleaned by swabbing q-tip to dust off some dirt little by little. It's like cleaning your ear hundred times without making it clean. In the end, I ended up with lots of "somewhat clogged" holes. At least the mud didn't managed to get inside motor/ anything important inside. And finally, the last part, the stock. It's the worst. at a first glance, it looks ok, but when you take a look inside (my AK uses a folding stock) the stock, all the mud had coagulated to the inner stock. It's unreachable by rag, and it took enormous amount of Q-tip to clean it.

Anyhow, in the end I got fed up with it, and sent my gun to Tokyo Marui for cleaning and greasing (luckily, I live only 15 mins walking distance away from the company).

To anybody who ever heard an old soldier mentioned that a gun's worst enemy is not another gun, it's mud(or sand), you better believe it.

cheers Big Grin
A silly question, but why not taking it completely it apart and cleaning it under the shower ? Would have been faster Smile

But yeah, water, mud and sands are renowned for breaking mechanical parts, and even electronical.

One of the first major assault launched upon Irak during Desert Storm happened to be a major disaster because of sand. Americans indeed went ahead and sent a flock of helicopters to attack position passing over a desert, supposedly a strategic and surprise approach.
Well, as smart as that move was from a strategic point of view, over a half of the helicopters had mechanical failures because of no sand filters yet installed on the machines (really early Desert Storm operations), and the engines just broke from flying over the desert and the sand it sent in it. Was a complete disaster that brought them to rethink the whole terrain factor during attacks.

Just a funny anecdote, no attack on the US military here, everyone makes mistakes especially on new grounds !
I think the most frustration I got was from the WA M4 platform. Sure, it looks great but it costs a lot and you'll spend a lot more just getting it to work the way you want. Long cooldown times, leaky magazines, magazines that don't fit, hop-up units that don't fit or work after getting them to fit, etc. Ended up selling it all away for a loss through Yahoo Auctions because it wasn't working well. Still seems hard to believe that this is the more popular GBB platform.
Cool story bro, too bad it's entirely fabricated. Next time you tell funny anecdotes, try to at least make sure they arent outright lies.

The attack wasnt a disaster, look up Task Force Normandy, assuming you were talking about the first attack of the Gulf War. I cant recall a situation where half of any group of helicopters on a mission were lost, so I'm just going to assume someone told you a nice little story that conveniently bashed the US Armed Forces while sounding credible. Bravo good sir!

On topic, the first time I took down my TM FAMAS I found bits of plant matter and sand in the gearbox. We played pretty hardcore milsim including wading across streams and crawling through dirt so it wasnt entirely unexpected. I've been constantly surprised at how well AEGs hold up to water. Submerge it and shake it off and it's good to go! At least that's my experience with it. YMMV, but you can be sure you'll much up the GB a bit from the water if it's dirt.
