On Saturday a group of us went to BLAM for the day. While waiting for our turn I tried the Tokyo Marui M9 Tactical Master, and asked the salesman if there were metal slides available for this gun.

He replied that there were, but that I couldn't use a gun with a metal slide at BLAM. When I asked why not, as it wouldn't change the power output, he explained that metal slides were illegal. According to the sales person the law in Japan is that you can't have metal slides or receivers on hand guns. I kept asking questions, and in the end it was a story much like US band radios...you can sell and buy them but you can't use them Sad

I hate this answer. If you can buy and sell them why can't you use something? Weird!

I also thought this strange as I have seen stores (echigoya) selling metal slides.

When I went to echigoya yesterday I asked them about it and they said it was no problem. Of course they would as they have an entire bottom shelf of 17,000 yen 1911 metal slides.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Is there a definitive answer, or is it really just another case by case law that one cop will decide to enforce while another won't care?

Any input appreciated.
Pfff, if even that isn't allowed, it becomes ridiculous. I'm not selling my P99 just to accommodate a stupid thing like this Tongue

I'd be curious to know if it was bull crap or not though.
This is the FIRST I've heard of metal slides being illegal. AFAIK RS slides are still being sold in Air-borne. I think the BLAM guy is confused.
First I've ever heard or read about it. Sounds like he might be confused.
Sounds like the good old Japan just makes shit up clause...I love this place but at the same time hate it because of stupid crap like this...Kinda of like my first airsoft game here and some one was shooting slightly over at village one...He brought other guns with him to other than the one that over clocked... but they said no he had to leave the field despite already paying...stupid
Sounds pretty retarded to me.

Come to think of it, last time I played at Kawagoe there was a girl there using two "Sword Cutlass" M9s with metal slides, as well as a guy with a G18C with an obviously metal slide. I cant imagine anyone enforces this rule or even checks for it. Otherwise you'd have to have your pistol inspected before chronoing in, something I've never witnessed.
I've read something about this in the product description of the Desert Eagle metal body kit. It said something about it being illegal to have the entire gun in metal. Either the slide only or the body only.
To avoid confusion with real handguns maybe ? Still... why not ban full metal assault rifles then ?

I remember reading that in the early days of Airsoft, they wanted to avoid the chance that someone would convert an airsoft to fire real live rounds, and the easiest way to guarantee that was to make them out of things other than metal. I think this is why a lot of TM guns have lots of plastic parts. But nowadays airsoft guns are made of metals with way lower melting points, and the chance is low that anyone would waste the time trying to convert an airsoft gun that would probably die after one round (not to mention possibly explode in their faces). It's one of those myths now I think that some people still subscribe to, like needing a license if you have a black belt in martial arts (because you are a DEADLY WEAPON!)Tongue
Sorry for the misunderstanding, I meant avoid the confusion "visually" Wink.
I think that this matter is a very vague regulations.
It doesn't limit to the air gun, and the object of a metallic PISTOL type has the possibility of illegal.
It is time when it is made of metal 50% or more of it.
it seems to be different by each policeman's judgment.

Please do not forget the situation changes by the discretion of the Japanese law enforcement agency that is related to this.

I hope you will be able to understand my poor English.
Thanks for that Kenzie...
What do you mean by Japanese cypress?
I did mis-translate. It was law enforcement agency.
eh, i could care less. its such an overlooked rule, if it even is one, that i can be like, arrest 75% of hte people here then.
or just play dumb foreigner
Sorry to revive this thread but has anyone ordered and had a full metal pistol arrive safely to Japan from overseas?
