Nope, pretty popular, I guess Irak is another matter than Airsoft. We even have guys wearing insurgents outfits.
Then there are the ones dressed as German WWII soldiers... those I personally highly frown upon.

Actually, I'm doing full ACU lately.

I'm wearing a Blackwater patch, and generally dress PMC style, but I don't really support that industry or style of armed combat. I just kinda dress like that cause I like the look. I don't think you should worry too much about offending anyone, at least here in Japan. As Ycare has stated, many Japanese wear WWII uniforms. I doubt they actually subscribe to those ideas, they just want to, for lack of a better term, "Cosplay" it.

Hmm, I dunno about the Nazi cosplayers. I think it highly likely that they admire the hell outta Hitler and think that Nazis were/are pretty awesome, but also are almost completely ignorant about the true nature of WW2. When I worked in eikaiwa I had multiple people get all Cartman on me and talk about WHAT A GREAT LEADER Hitler was without even the slightest hint of the whole mass murdering sociopath thing. Then there was the "tarento" a while back who referred to "Hitler-ojisan."
I read back in uni that they don't really teach WW2 here the same way they do in the west, preferring to look at it as a conflict between great leaders with conflicting ideals, again glossing over all the CRAZY that was the essence of Nazism.

Of course they're taught differently. They lost, and before that allied to the guy who decided that anything that wasn't blond with blue eyes should die. Pretty hard choice to justify in history books...

Although my conclusions are more-or-less based on deduction and speculation, please feel free to enlighten me if necessary.

I agree, there are definitely holes in Japanese history when it comes to WW2. But this is one of the reasons I think they don't see anything wrong with Nazi costumes, for them the history has been washed. I highly doubt they consider the racist and genocidal connotations of the uniform.
So getting back to ACU's which don't have any overt political/racial messages (like the swastika), I figure it's all good.

Sorry guys, I am bringing this thread back to the top from the depths of the database abyss, but I was intending to join November 14th wearing ACU.
(My friends will very probably be wearing ACU as well).
It's by far my favourite Camo, and there is nothing political about that fact.
I like the design/color scheme. I didn't even think a single second that it might offend some people in any way.
(I still don't see any reason why, but who am I to judge... I didn't fight in Irak.)
It's my first time to join a TKO event I really don't want to confuse anyone.
So please let me know if the ACU Camo is affecting anyone's feelings, if so, I (we) will wear something else.
